FIFA Legends: Alan Shearer, the goal machine

The Legends are some of the best players of all time. They’re an Xbox (360 & One) exclusive content due to a contract between Microsoft and EA Sports. Since these cards represent the best moment of a footballer’s career, some of them cost quite a lot. Legends are available on the transfer market and can also be found in packs. The chemistry between players is a crucial point in order for you to overcome your opponent’s team. In that sense, the Legends have a positive impact on your game experience for they represent greater possible team variations, this way you don’t have to worry as much about chemistry.

In several drafts or in the highest online season divisions we come across these Legends in the opponent’s team and many times we end up wondering why is it that they chose that special card in particular. You may have watched documentaries about them, done some researching like me, but we do know one thing about these players: they made history and a difference for football. But what even is this new series’ objective, since after all we have the internet to give us any answers we’d like? It’s simple! Gathering information, discovering new idols and sharing some in game experience.

Here we’ll tell, fortnightly, a little bit of the history of these players. We’ll also make comments on the cards and their squad role possibilities according to attributes, their transfer market values and everything with images, links and videos to show the career of every Legend. It is on! Legends: from A to Z!

History

Life and footballer career

And what were the remarkable moments of this player’s career? Alan Shearer played for three clubs along his career: Southamptom (1988 – 1992), Blackburn Rovers (1992-1996) and Newcastle United (1996-2006). Shearer is the youngest ever player (17 years old) to score a hat-trick in the Premier League, it was in a Southampton match against Arsenal (4×2). For England Under-21s he holds the record for having scored 13 times in the Toulon Tournament. Back in the 94-95 season he won the trophy with Blackburn, their third trophy in history, and was top scorer of the league with 34 goals in 42 games. For all that Shearer received the award of best player of the year in England’s football.

In the season next to that Blackburn weren’t champions, but Alan Shearer was once again top scorer, this time with 31 goals in 35 games. For the third time in a row, at Newcastle United, Shearer was top scorer with 25 goals in 31 games played, now having received the award of best player of the year for the second time. Besides that, he was the first player ever to be top scorer for three years in a row and reach 100 goals scored in the Premier League. At Newcastle, having scored 206 goals total, he became the all-time top scorer for the club in the Premier League. And to round things up, still on England’s first division, Shearer scored a hat-trick 11 times. Also take a look at the time when he joined the list of players who scored 5 goals in a single Premier League match. With so many records, Alan Shearer is known as the single-minded goal machine, with a total of 409 goals in 796 games throughout his career.

Did you know?

Curious facts about the player

At the age of 26, Alan Shearer was considered one of the best strikers in the world (if not the best) and, because of that, he was approached by clubs such as Juventus, Milan, Barcelona and Manchester United for negotiation, but decided to stay at Newcastle for passion and managed to become the biggest idol in the history of the club. If you’d like to know more about Alan Shearer’s passion for Newcastle watch this tribute to him made by the English club themselves.

Polemical declaration

Famous declaration by the player

I just don’t understand why Brazil are still picking him (Fred). He doesn’t move, he doesn’t shoot and he’s dragging the team down. I don’t know if Brazil should change the system or play Neymar as a false nine, but the fact is that Fred is not the answer for what they are doing now

said Alan Shearer referring to Brazil’s 2014 World Cup striker. What about you, do you agree with what he said?

Analysis

Player characteristics

Alan Shearer is a classical finisher. He’s not the best dribbler (three skill stars) and only shoots well with his right foot. His high work rate for attack is essential for players who like using offensive formations. If you get a foul or penalty don’t hesitate to choose Shearer for the shot. His chances of scoring from a long distance are also high. If you like crossing into the opponent’s area try and find Shearer and his 1,82m of height, excellent jumping, strength and att. positioning stats.

Value on the transfer market

How much the player costs in FUT

Alan Shearer’s price range goes from 30k to 550k. Last time we checked his lowest buy now price had been around 210k. Whether he’s worth the investment or not, it all depends on you. If you’re a fan of this player, go ahead, buy him. If you just wish to test him out, don’t hesitate as well. If you’re looking for strikers with this many coins, for example, there’s also IF Lewandowski (90) who’s going for almost the same price, a bit less. On October 1st, 2015, Shearer was going for 790k, while on May 1st, 2016, his card was worth 246k, that’s right, he got 544k coins cheaper on the market.

In order to keep the game updated, EA releases new cards to these players in their new clubs. These cards replace the old ones into packs. The cards with the old clubs are not updated and are no longer released in packs. That is, the same player can have cards from two different clubs at the same time but they can be found in packs only with the new club.

The new cards allow you to build more teams with good chemistry.

You can find a full explanation about how FIFA 16 Ultimate Team Summer Transfers work clicking here.

From 1985 to 2002, the Italian defender played for Lazio. He won the 97-98 and 99-00 Italian Cup, the Supercoppa Italiana in 1998 and in 2000, the 98-99 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, the UEFA Super Cup in 1999 and the 99-00 Italian league. From 2002 to 2012, the legend also known as Sandro defended Milan and managed to win two Champion League titles (2002-03/2006-07), won his second and third UEFA Super Cup titles (2003 and 2007), his third Italian Cup in 2002-03 and in 2007 he won the FIFA Club World Cup with Italy. Three years later Nesta won the Serie A with Milan (2010-11) and also became four times champion of the Supercoppa in 2011, having also won it in 2004.

After two long periods playing for Italian clubs, Nesta played a whole season (2012-13) for Montreal Impact and won the Canadian league. Because of his lack of fitness, Nesta decided to retire at the end of that season. The last club Nesta ever played at before announcing his retirement was Chennaiyin F. C., because his old friend and Italian teammate Marco Materazzi asked him to (the headbutt man himself). Along all these years, Nesta also defended the Italian national team on all categories (the main one, under 18, under 21 and olympic). He played 78 games but never scored a goal for the Nazionale, although he did win an under-21 title in 1996 and the 2006 World Cup.

Did you know?

Curious facts about the player

In the beginning of his career as a player, at Lazio, Nesta used to play in the midfield and even as an attacker. He only started playing as a defender in 1992, after Domenico Caso decided to play him there.

Polemical declaration

Famous declaration by the player

You can’t write your name in the history of football until you’ve done well once in a World Cup: your club performances work as your basis, but a player only wins the fans’ hearts, including those from other clubs, when he represents his country”, declared Alessandro Nesta in the book “Football in phrases: 1001 best and definitive sentences by intellectuals, journalists, directors, managers and players

Are Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar in this list? Is winning a World Cup the definitive achievement a player needs to enter the hall of history? What’s your opinion?

Analysis

Player characteristics

The amount of crucial attributes for the position over 90 that Alessandro Nesta has shows how well tough to beat he is. His medium work rate for attack and high for defense makes it easier to keep your defense line intact. Nesta tackles his opponents especially well when combined with his high strength attribute. The Italian defender isn’t very tall (1,82m), but his tactical awareness makes up for that. Try choosing other players to start a counter attack with for he has only three stars of skill and 62 of passing. For what I’ve seen him play, I think these points are quite contradictory. He is very prone to suffer injuries, so be careful going for challenges. Another weak point of his would be his agility (also contradictory), nothing new for a defender in general, though.

Value on the transfer market

How much the player costs in FUT

Alessandro Nesta’s price range goes from 30k to 550k. In a last verification, his card was being sold for 145k buy now. Whether he’s worth the investment or not, it all depends on you. If you’re a fan of this player, go ahead, buy him. If you just wish to test him out, don’t hesitate as well. If you’re looking for a centre back with this many coins, for example, there’s IF Godín (90) who’s going for 120k or less. On October 1st, 2015, Nesta was going for 637k, while on June 1st of this year his card was worth 148k, that’s right, 489k coins cheaper than before.

History

Life and footballer career

And what were the remarkable moments of this player’s career? Alexi Lalas didn’t play for big clubs along his journey in football. He left his mark in the 1994 World Cup, back when Brazil were champions, for his notable appearances with the USA national team. The north american team’s performance was way more relevant outside of the pitch than it was inside of it. Lalas was, by the way, and still is one of the responsible players to build, spread and consolidate the popularity of football (soccer) in the country. Three years before, in 1991, the centre back won the Pan American Games. Initially he played for Rutgers, then Padova signed him and some time later he had playerd for o New England Revolution, Emelec, MetroStars, Kansas City Wizards and o Los Angeles Galaxy. In this last club he won the national league in the years of 2001 and 2002.

In 2014, just as Lalas arrived in Brazilian territorry to watch the World Cup, he caused quite some indignation with such tweet. As a justification the north american said his intention was to show people that these stereotypes are nonsense. Was that really just a joke?

Analysis

Player characteristics

Having just one attribute that’s essential for the position over 90 leaves the centre back in a questionable situation, to say the least. On the other hand, Lalas is proof that legends in FIFA are not just there for their ability, but because of their contribution at some point in the history of football. Acceleration (78), height (1,91cm) and low work rate for attack and high for defence are some characteristics that might make you gain interest in him.

FIFA 17 Ratings: Premier League Players Predictions – Leicester City

Check out the most accurate Barclays Premier League Players Predictions for FIFA 17 Ultimate Team. We will start by a Leicester City’s full analysis.

FIFA 17 Ratings Predictions for Premier League Players

With the FIFA cycle almost coming to an end, and EA in the process of creating the next installment in their franchise, there is no bigger time for the FIFA team to analyse and study the ability of the players residing in their game. From the upcoming youth players at your average League 2 team to the superstars of Messi and Ronaldo, every player will be reviewed to get a measure of how accurate their ratings are, and whether they need updating.

The league that generates the most attention is the Premier League – after all, it is the most watched worldwide and draws the largest TV audience in many countries across the footballing world. EA have to make sure they hold a small margin of error with the players plying their trade here to avoid any unnecessary backlash. As a result, we are going to look at the players of each of the top clubs in the country, and give them a rating ourselves for FIFA 17. I will only be doing the players who have a chance at the first team, to avoid having to rate every young player in the team.

Today we will cover the champion Leicester City but you can also expect FIFA 17 ratings predictions for the six biggest clubs of Barclays Premier League.

FIFA 17 Ratings Predictions for Leicester City Players

FIFA 17 Ratings: Premier League Players Predictions - Leicester City

One of the stand out stories of the 2015-16 season, the idea of Leicester City avoiding relegation, let alone winning the title, was a fantasy for many. The Premier League champions have stolen the hearts of many over the last year or so, and EA will almost certainly be delivering major upgrades to the squad.

GK – Ron Robert Zieler – 80
One of many talented German goalkeepers plying their trade in Europe, Zieler looks set to be a sturdy replacement for the outgoing Schmeichel. Consistency with Hannover for years should see him step up to being a rare card – but I would be surprised to see his rating change for next year.

GK – Kasper Schmeichel – 80
Schmeichel Jr. made huge strides towards emulating the legendary achievements his father made with a highly successful season in goal for Leicester – and though he may be heading out of the club EA will almost certainly boost his rating significantly this summer.

RB – Danny Simpson – 76
The former Man United academy man has perhaps fulfilled some of the talent he once held at Old Trafford, with strong performances across the second half of the season. A major boost from silver to gold should be expected for the full back.

RB – Richie De Laet – 73
A season of moderate success for De Laet, in which he largely played as back up to Simpson, should see his card receive a minor upgrade for FIFA 17, and like Simpson go closer to fulfilling the promise invested in him at Manchester United

LB – Christian Fuchs – 79
Despite a poor Euro 2016, Fuchs was widely regarded as the best left back in the country through his stellar performances last year, with offensive and defence contributions for his side. The Austrian full back will certainly step up to a gold card, and should see a major boost to land himself comfortable stats in the gold category.

CB – Wes Morgan – 81
The lynchpin of the defence, Wes Morgan was arguably one of the best players of the season for both Leicester and the nation as a whole. His composure and reliability at the back for Leicester were crucial in maintaining their winning run across the tougher months of the campaign, and without doubt Morgan’s role at the heart of the back make him a candidate for one of the largest upgrades we’ll see in FIFA 17. I fully expect him to be a strongly rated defender next year, with gold being virtually guaranteed and a rating that exceeds 80 not an impossibility.

CB – Robert Huth – 81
Huth was different to some of his lesser known teammates at the start of the season having had playing time at Stoke in the league before – yet his exploits for Leicester alongside Morgan still see him well in line for a strong upgrade going into FIFA 17. Another player who looks set to break the 80 barrier, I would imagine EA giving the pair equal ratings and thus I see the pair receiving 81 each.

RM – Riyad Mahrez – 83
The Premier League Player of the Year is in line for a rating to place him as one of the league’s strongest wingers. His sheer volume of special cards last year are a testament to his performances over the season – as his award as the best player of the league show. He should comfortably step over the 80+ barrier, and be given a rating that places him as one of the division’s strongest players.

LM – Marc Albrighton – 76
Yet another unsung hero of the Leicester team, Albrighton enjoyed a fantastic season at Leicester this year, earning himself talk of an England call up and playing in every game of the season. He should definitely be the recipient of an upgrade to gold, and whilst I’ve predicted 76 it could well exceed that number.

LM – Demarai Gray – 71
Whilst his appearances were mainly limited to the bench, it is clear that the former Birmingham man holds great potential for the future, and looked promising whenever given the spotlight by Ranieri. He should receive a boost within the silver ratings, to make him one of the strongest silver cards in the league.

LM/LB – Jeffrey Schlupp – 70
Another player that saw large stints on the bench, the Ghanaian was impressive when he featured, enough so to earn a minor upgrade within the silver ranks to break the 70+ barrier. His versatility as a full back or a more offensive winger leave his position dubious for next year, but he should receive a small upgrade.

CM – Danny Drinkwater – 79
Drinkwater enjoyed a phenomenal season in the middle of the pitch for Leicester, only missing out on more plaudits through the efforts of the teammates playing around him, and became the player many English fans were most annoyed at being left out of the England squad for Euro 2016. The popularity of the player makes him another likely target for a huge boost in rating, which should place him well into the gold ratings.

CM – N’Golo Kante – 83
Dubbed the new Makelele by many, Kante was considered by many to be Leicester’s most important player of the 2015-16 season, and his exemplar tackling and interceptions across the season leave him well placed for a considerably major upgrade going into FIFA 17. Certainly EA would face mass uproar from many if Kante isn’t one of the largest boosts for the next game.

CM – Andy King – 73
Andy King broke a Premier League record by being the first player to have won the three highest divisions in the PL era – and as Leicester’s longest serving player, the midfielder is well regarded with the fans of the club. Whilst he spent long parts of the season behind Drinkwater and Kante, he played well when given the opportunity, and should receive a moderate upgrade.

ST – Jamie Vardy – 82
Perhaps the most iconic player from the Leicester story, Vardy has become synonymous with the entire concept of ‘rags to riches’ in football, and has the adulation of half of the footballing world. With such praise and plaudits given to the guy it would be impossible for EA not to make his card amongst the greatest upgrades in the game, and I see him being placed straight into the 80+ region from the very start of the game.

ST – Shinji Okazaki – 78
His goal scoring statistics were poor over the course of the season, especially when compared to Vardy’s – however the goals he did score were often at crucial times for Leicester, and ensured their title challenge lost momentum in the crucial moments. I expect him to maintain his rating going into next season.

ST – Leonardo Ulloa – 73
Just as Okazaki had a meagre goal tally across the season, Ulloa also found himself shy of goals over the year too – though being behind the two strikers before him won’t have helped. Even so, the strong Leicester performance should mask his inadequacies and prevent him from getting a downgrade next year.

ST – Ahmed Musa – 77
As with what usually happens when a player moves to the Premier League, EA should lavish an upgrade on Musa for joining the league champions. It does help that Musa is one of the most talented young African players around, and definitely holds considerable talent as a striker for the team he plays with. A minor boost seems fitting.

FIFA 17 Ratings Predictions for Arsenal Players

FIFA 17 Ratings: Premier League Players Predictions - Arsenal

Given the criticism levelled at the club and its players from supporters and rival fans alike it would come as a surprise to see the side placed 2nd in the league at the end of the season. Their high league ranking should not hide the mixed bag of performances from the club’s players this season.

GK – Petr Cech – 85
Cech is definitely within the best keepers in the division– however his age is definitely catching up with him and mistakes were made across the season, if across time intervals too wide to be considerably noticeable. 86 is probably too high a rating for a season like Cech’s, which will probably see him given a minor downgrade, though nothing more than that for the legendary Czech.

GK – David Ospina – 78
David Ospina appears to save his best performances for his country, as whilst his season with Arsenal was marred with high profile mistakes and a lack of confidence in him from manager Arsene Wenger, his performances at the Copa America showed he does hold ability as a goalkeeper. As his strong international performances lie clearer in the memory, I don’t see Ospina’s rating being knocked down this season.

RB – Hector Bellerin – 82
Bellerin emerged as one of the most promising young players in 2014-15, and his continued excellence in 2015-16 should see him receive a major upgrade into next season. Perhaps the best of Arsenal’s often shaky defence last year, I fully expect him to enter the 80+ zone and rank as one of the best right backs in the division, with a strong upgrade for FIFA 17.

RB – Carl Jenkinson – 75
Positive performances with West Ham should see the English full back earn a small upgrade to jump up to a gold rating. Though he is nowhere near claiming a spot in the first team ahead of Bellerin it is clear that Jenkinson is decent enough to be a backup player a la Gibbs in the Arsenal squad, and that should be reflected in a small upgrade.

LB – Nacho Monreal – 80
Monreal certainly had a decent start to the season but performances tailed off over the second half of the season for Arsenal – and defensive lapses cost the club dearly when trying to maintain their title challenge. Whilst his season was by no means downgrade worthy, I don’t feel he warrants an upgrade given the considerable boost he earnt last year – thus keeping him at 80 for now.

LB – Kieran Gibbs – 80
Gibbs didn’t feature often for Arsenal over the season, which will have been frustrating for him as he looked decent whenever he featured – and had he been given more playing time could have made a stake for an England place at the Euros. Instead his lack of playing time leaves him keeping his rating for next year.

CB – Laurent Koscielny – 84
Koscielny is a defender who divides opinion – some see him as a mistake prone liability for Arsenal, and others see him as an intelligent tackler and the best defender the club have. I lie more in the latter camp – whilst he has and did make costly mistakes across the 15-16 season, when at his best he is crucial for the club, and his performances at Euro 2016 when many pointed at France’s defence as a weakness highlight this. I see him maintaining his rating just about next year, if largely through the solidarity he showed at the European Championships.

CB – Per Mertesacker – 81
If Koscielny keeps his rating at a push then there can be no leverage with Mertesacker, who did not enjoy a successful season with Arsenal. Though he suffered from injuries across the campaign his recklessness and sluggishness leave him exposed against offensively capable teams, and often his defensive weakness left his team throwing away valuable points across the season. I think his rating has been in need of a downgrade for a while, and I can’t see him keeping 83 next season at all.

CB – Gabriel – 77
The Brazilian CB was called into action numerous times over the season, with both Koscielny and Mertesacker falling victim to injury and suspension at differing points in the season, and was unable to really stamp his authority at the back for the club. I think a minor downgrade is reflective of a disappointing season for him.

CB – Calum Chambers – 72
The versatile young defender, like Gibbs before him, was decent when given playing time but didn’t hold enough playing time to really warrant a change in rating. Whilst I would be pushed to predict a minor boost due to being silver, and a young player, I don’t see his rating changing next year.

RM – Theo Walcott – 81
Whilst I do not dislike Walcott it cannot be argued that if he wanted to be judged as a striker his performances were not great, and being dropped for the Euro 2016 squad will be a huge blow to Walcott’s standing as a player. However I feel that he is nowhere near as poor as some people make him out to be, and as a winger does and can perform for Arsenal if given a chance. If EA decide to move his card to striker then I can’t see him keeping his 81 rating, but I reckon he’ll be left at RM and just about maintain his current rating.

RM – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 78
The fact that Oxlade-Chamberlain broke into the Euro 2012 squad at 18, and didn’t get into the squad this year, is perhaps a testament to the struggle that the guy has had over the last season. Injuries haven’t helped but the Ox isn’t making the progress expected of him and I don’t think his performances have done enough to keep him at his current rating.

RM – Joel Campbell – 78
A winger who did impress, however, was Joel Campbell, who proved to Wenger that he is well worth a place in the Arsenal squad. Strong performances whilst Arsenal’s squad lay injury ridden and some crucial goals should put Campbell in line for a moderate upgrade for FIFA 17, and perhaps give him the platform to challenge Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain in the future.

CAM – Mezut Ozil – 88
Ozil probably ranks as one of my favourite players around at the moment, easily being the best offensive based player at Arsenal last season and possibly the only one to really show up in the second half of the season. His assisting exploits were phenomenal to watch in the first half, which pretty much guarantee he’ll keep his esteemed, world class rating – but in order to move a rating higher from an already world class figure he needed to be exceptional to an even greater degree – and thus I don’t see him having done enough to move any higher for FIFA 17. Which is a shame, as I do think both at the Euros and for Arsenal he was exceptional.

CM – Santi Cazorla – 85
Another personal favourite of mine, I think Cazorla faces a fight to keep his 85 rating for FIFA 17. His long periods out injured was a major factor in Arsenal’s major dip in form around the Christmas-New Year period, which count in his favour, however he failed to score a single goal and wasn’t selected for Spain’s Euro 2016 squad, which may well cost him his 85 rating. I remain optimistic and have predicted a continuation of the 85, as he is without doubt one of the most technically gifted and intelligent players in the league when, though a downgrade would not come as a major surprise.

CM – Aaron Ramsey – 84
Ramsey had an OK season with Arsenal, in which he wasn’t as good as his previous two seasons, yet it will be his exemplar performances with Wales at Euro 2016 that give him the upgrade into FIFA 17. Arguably one of the players of the tournament I would be surprised if EA don’t place his card further into the 80s – his absence for Wales in the semi-final arguably cost them the game. I expect a significant boost for FIFA 17.

CM – Granit Xhaka – 82
The Swiss midfielder is a strong replacement for the haphazard Flamini and looks set to be a key part of the Arsenal midfielder for next season. Whilst I can’t see a rating change for the midfielder going into FIFA 17, with his rating already placed at a decent 82, he may well have some stat boosts to make his card that bit more appealing (penalties aside!)

CM – Jack Wilshere – 81
Wilshere spent almost the entire season injured so moving his rating up or down does seem unfair, especially when he was given so little playing time at Euro 2016 by England. His card being non rare was an odd choice by EA so that might change, though given the rating doesn’t look set to change I don’t see any change on that front either.

CDM – Francis Coquelin – 79
Coquelin had a mixed season – whilst it was nowhere near as impressive as the initial 2014-15 breakthrough and had plenty of games where he looked reckless and inexperienced, his role in the heart of the team is key for Arsenal and he does have ability in the role of CDM. I would expect his rating to remain the same going into FIFA 17.

CDM – Elneny – 71
As with many transferred players the stature of the Premier League alone virtually guarantees a ratings boost going into the next title. Elneny looks set to be a back up player for the team though I would still expect a minor boost for the next game.

LW – Alexis Sanchez – 86
Sanchez’s league season with Arsenal was inconsistent – he had games where he was unplayable, and the clear star of the Arsenal attack, and then periods where his form dipped off and couldn’t find his goalscoring form. A clear drop off from 2015-16 – yet his brilliance at the Copa America put to bed any potential room for a downgrade, being crucial in Chile’s triumph at the tournament. I can’t see Sanchez moving down from 86 as a result of that.

ST – Olivier Giroud – 82
Giroud is another player who divides opinion – he can be wasteful and lethargic in one game, and an unplayable goal machine the game after. His goal scoring tally is never poor yet he doesn’t hold the same recognition other strikers with similar tallies do. And he takes the brunt of Arsenal’s chance conversion problems yet often isn’t the person missing the chances. I find myself torn on the guy, and I see both arguments – and I think his form at Euro 2016 will allow EA to see both arguments and keep his 82 rating for next FIFA, as being part of a tournament like that will ensure he doesn’t lose his rating.

ST – Danny Welbeck – 80
This might be a controversial one! Danny Welbeck suffered from a long term injury that kept him out of the first half of the season, and another one that kept him out of Euro 2016 – yet his ability as a forward was perhaps seen in a run of games played by Arsenal in which he scored, and his general ability as an impact substitution in the team. Whilst he is by no means the best striker around there is no doubt he is a valuable player to have in the squad for Arsene Wenger, and I reckon EA may just about see this and push him up to an 80 rating.

Today we will cover the Tottenham Spurs but you can also expect FIFA 17 ratings predictions for the other five biggest English Premier League clubs.

FIFA 17 Ratings: Premier League Players Predictions - Tottenham Spurs

The North London side enjoyed their greatest season in an era, with a serious title challenge mounted for the first time in years, a strong young core of English players emerging in the club and many considering the football Spurs played as the best in the country. Like Leicester, they would be a fair bet for a substantial group of upgrades in FIFA 17.

GK – Hugo Lloris – 86
Captain for his club and country, Lloris is a prime candidate for an upgrade to a top rating for his position. His solidarity in goal for Tottenham was a key part of the side’s phenomenal defence, and was one of the players of the tournament for France at the Euros – which leaves an upgrade as a likelihood for next season.

GK – Michel Vorm – 80
Vorm spent the majority of the season on the bench behind the club’s captain, leaving him with a handful of appearances to count for over the year. A change in rating seems very unlikely for Vorm as a result.

RB – Kyle Walker – 81
Walker enjoyed a strong season with Tottenham as the potential he showed in previous seasons came to fruition over the 15-16 campaign, and was one of the better players at Euro 2016 in an exceedingly poor campaign for England. An upgrade seems very likely for Walker heading into FIFA 17, being positioned as one of the best full backs in the league through his performances last season.

RB – Kieran Trippier – 78
Behind Walker, Trippier’s ability as a full back has developed nicely – his role as deputy full back was well performed across the Europa League campaign, and as a result would deserve a decent boost to his rating for FIFA 17.

LB – Danny Rose – 81
Another player with a long history of undelivered potential, Rose may be on the way to a significant upgrade next season. Like Walker he was one of the stronger performers at Euro 2016 for England, and his solid performances across the season were key in delivering Champions League football to White Hart Lane, leaving him a prime candidate for a major upgrade.

LB – Ben Davies – 78
Just as Trippier was a strong deputy for Walker, Davies served as a strong back up for Rose over the season, being paramount to the Europa League and Cup games Tottenham played across the season. As with Ramsey his success with Wales at the Euros should see an upgrade delivered to the full back, moving him up a few ratings.

CB – Jan Vertonghen – 83
Vertonghen has been a strong performer for Tottenham for years and with a strong Tottenham finish the centre back should be in line for a small boost in rating. His solidarity and physicality at the back was hugely beneficial for both club and country as Vertonghen was amongst the most consistent performers for Belgium in their tournament, and can expect an upgrade for next season.

CB – Toby Alderweireld – 83
Amongst the best defenders in the country last season, Alderweireld continued his strong form from Southampton with a phenomenal debut season at Tottenham, reaching the team of the season and widely considered to be the best signing of the season by many. A strong Euro 2016 ensures that the Belgian defender should earn a decent upgrade for FIFA 17, and a rating that matches his stature as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

CB – Kevin Wimmer – 78
The young Austrian was an excellent deputy for Vertonghen whilst the Belgian was out injured, proving solid in the winter months of the season and thus a likely candidate for a small upgrade. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him move to a rare card as well.

RM – Erik Lamela – 82
2015-16 may be the season in which the promise and potential of Lamela was finally realised for most Spurs fans – the Argentine was the second top scorer at the club and consistently performed when required for the team. A decent upgrade should be delivered for a player who finally looks to be at home at Tottenham.

LM – Nacer Chadli – 80
Chadli, though largely confined to the bench, showed his talent with a fair few goals despite playing out wide to accommodate Kane across the season. Whilst an upgrade would be a push, it wouldn’t be a major surprise as the player has more than impressed when given the chance by Spurs.

LM – Heung Min Son – 80
Perhaps even more impressive than Chadli is the South Korean Son, who proved his role as one of the best impact substitutes of the season with consistent goals and assists from the bench. His technical skill, pace and ability on the ball should see him take a sizeable upgrade going into FIFA 17, and enter the 80+ zone for player ratings.

CAM – Christian Eriksen – 84
Tottenham’s Danish maestro is well in line for an upgrade, with yet another strong season at the heart of Tottenham’s attacking heart. Eriksen continues to prove his ability and refined talent with each game he plays, and 84 in honesty would be a tame prediction in my opinion – an 85 rated card would suit the player just as nicely.

CM – Moussa Dembele – 82
A player who Fulham fans (like yours truly) could have told you would be great back in 2012, Dembele finally received recognition for his talent in 2015-16 with greater focus on his talents exemplified by his role in the middle of the pitch. The Belgian will almost certainly get an upgrade going into the next game, the question seems more steered towards how great the upgrade will be – it should be fairly substantial.

CDM – Victor Wanyama – 77
Wanyama will have had his season sullied by his record as the most red carded player of the Premier League last year, which reflects on his often reckless nature – however his move to a top 4 team, as well as the high placing finish of Southampton should see him retain his rating for FIFA 17.

CM – Ryan Mason – 75
Mason only had a sparing role in the Tottenham team, which would make a potential change in rating unlikely going into the next game. A continuation of his 75 card looks likely.

CM – Nabil Bentaleb – 75
The same can be said of Bentaleb, who appeared even less than Mason did over the season. His talent and ability with the ball should be enough to keep his rating as gold next season.

CM – Dele Alli – 80
The PFA Young Player of the Year, Dele Alli was one of the stand out players of the season with his progress as a midfielder in the Tottenham starting line-up. With a prolific goals and assists tally, a place in the Premier League team of the season, outstanding performances across the entire year, and the reputation as one of England’s brightest talents in years, EA look set to hand Alli one of the greatest upgrades of the year, and despite a poor European Championship I see Alli making a huge leap to a gold card.

ST – Harry Kane – 84
Harry Kane was another player who took the limelight across 2015-16, taking the Premier League golden boot and scoring 20+ goals for Tottenham for the second campaign in a row. As one of the best players in the country for his goal scoring form, a major upgrade should be seen for the Englishman – though the dismal Euros may have knocked back his potential for upgrade. Either way, I feel as though he should be well in line for a sizeable upgrade and ranked as one of the best strikers in the league.

ST – Clinton N’Jie – 69
N’Jie had the misfortune to play behind a player who spent the whole year in outstanding form, thus hardly got a game in the role of striker and when asked to play ended up shunted out wide. The young striker probably will keep his rating for next season as a result of his lack of play time.

ST – Vincent Janssen – 76
Janssen is one in a long line of talented young players to move from Eredivisie to the Premier League, and with an exemplar 27 league goals at the end of the 2015-16 season a considerable jump from silver to gold could be on the way for the Dutchman.

FIFA 17 Ratings Predictions for Manchester City Players

FIFA 17 Ratings: Premier League Players Predictions - Manchester City

A season that started with huge promise for the blue half of Manchester became one of dogged frustration and missed opportunities, as what could have been a title winning season turned into a fight for the top 4 that was barely accomplished. The arrival of Guardiola won’t disguise the downgrades that a fair few players may be receiving next year.

GK – Joe Hart – 84
Joe Hart was one of the best players at City last season, with outstanding performances across the league campaign and an arguable man of the match showing against Real Madrid in the Champions League. This was sadly ruined by an abysmal set of performances at Euro 2016, in which key errors in three of England’s four games marred his and England’s tournament. As a result, any chance of an upgrade has been quashed and he leans more towards a downgrade if Euro 2016 lies fresh in the mind at EA. I think his club form will have been enough to keep his spot, but he faces a close run for his rating.

GK – Willy Caballero – 78
The Argentine is a decent, if not great, back up keeper, and his heroics for his club in the League Cup final may prevent Caballero from sliding down a rating. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him remain at 78.

RB – Bacary Sagna – 81
Sagna’s age and lack of renowned status shouldn’t be a detriment to his ability as a player, as he was one of the most reliable defenders across the season for City and defied his age to make himself a key part of the France back line at the European Championships. Whilst an upgrade may be a stretch Sagna has adapted his game and become one of the sturdiest defenders in the league, and a small boost would be entirely justified.

RB – Pablo Zabaleta – 81

Zabaleta I have considered the best right back in the Premier League for some time – but sadly I feel his age and injury record are taking a toll on his performances, and I can’t see him keeping his rating going into FIFA 17. With Sagna looking the more accessible player for City right now, it would not come as a surprise to see the Argentine placed on a pedestal with Sagna.

LB – Gael Clichy – 79
Clichy has not enjoyed a sustained run of good form for an incredibly long time in the City team now, and I start to wonder how a downgrade hasn’t been given to him sooner given his defensive inadequacies. I think the major slump in form seen by City over periods this year in the league will be the factor EA need to knock his rating down, as with Kolarov ahead of him at City and France not even selecting him for their squads any longer it seems apparent he can’t realistically hold onto his 80 rating.

LB – Aleksandar Kolarov – 77
That is to give no praise to Kolarov though, who has had a similarly poor season with more games to evidence this. Whilst by no means atrocious it is hard to imagine the Serb keeping the same rating after City’s often embarrassing displays at the back, and I would imagine a small downgrade is coming.

CB – Vincent Kompany – 85
Kompany when fit is without doubt one of the finest defenders in Europe – the problem appears to be sustaining his presence in the City team. He hasn’t managed a long period of time in the side since 2014, and missed out on Euro 2016 through injury, and whilst he is strong when he plays the questions have to be asked over whether he can realistically maintain such a high rating for a defender. 85 can be kept for now but a downgrade would not be a major shock.

CB – Nicolas Otamendi – 83
Otamendi, comparatively, cannot claim injury as a factor in his poor form over the season. While Demichelis was undoubtedly the worst of the centre backs by a landslide, Otamendi struggled for form for the majority of the campaign and did not live up to his sturdy reputation from La Liga. A solid Copa America campaign with Argentina repaired some of the damage but I think it won’t be enough to save him from a downgrade overall.

CB – Eliaquim Mangala – 79
Mangala is one of the most frustrating players at Manchester City – someone who has the physique, defensive abilities and athleticism to be a terrific defender yet consistently makes errors and mistakes to undo his work. Whilst he showed in a strong partnership with Kompany he can be terrific like Otamendi he had far too many poor games to avoid a downgrade, and I can’t see anything else but a knock to his rating.

LM – Raheem Sterling – 81
Sterling drew huge ire for not living up to his mammoth transfer fee in his performances last year, and looking at his games in the Euros and across City’s season that has to be considered true. However, taking into account the ire the draws from fans, with the hatred of vast sections of Manchester United, Liverpool and those opposed to Man City (of which there are a lot), and the embarrassing and repugnant media led campaign led by sections of the British media to criticise him, the scale of Sterling’s underperformances has been extremely exaggerated in my opinion. I expect a downgrade, but I don’t see it being colossal – Sterling is still a young talent, and far from the worst player for City or England over the last season, has shown in games for both that he is capable of a lot, and the scorn he receives is not a reflection of the player he actually is.

LM – Samir Nasri – 82
I would be very surprised if Samir Nasri manages to keep his rating for FIFA 17. His appearances, though afflicted by injury, have become increasingly sporadic, and whilst he isn’t a poor player his actual effectivity and role at the club appears far weaker than in previous years. A small downgrade is the most likely outcome.

RM – Jesus Navas – 79
Jesus Navas is not an unlikable player, as his effort and commitment to City cannot be faulted, having played the most games out of any player for the club in 2015-16. Yet his poor contributions in attack, and his wastefulness with the ball leave it obvious to most observers of City that he is a weak squad member and thus can’t expect anything but a downgrade.

CAM – Kevin De Bruyne – 87
Kevin De Bruyne was one of the stand out players of the 2015-16 season in England, and would have easily gained more plaudits had he lasted the full season without injury. His technical ability and finesse gave him more importance in the City squad than David Silva, and the side were stronger throughout with De Bruyne in the team – hence positioning the Belgian in the ideal position to earn an upgrade.

CAM – David Silva – 87
Silva is undoubtedly one of the most technically refined and able players in the division, but when compared to his like for like Ozil at Arsenal the Spaniard’s performance is not equivalent. He failed to hold the impact he had over previous seasons and whilst injury was no help he was lacklustre in too many games to hold a rating as high as 88. His position at the club ensures that with significant playing time he could earn his way back to a higher rating but for FIFA 17 he seems destined for a minor downgrade.

CM – Yaya Toure – 84
The time when Yaya was the king of the court at the Etihad seems far gone. Watching City it feels as though Toure has one good game in five, being absent for lengthy periods in far too many games and drifting away from the action into midfield submission. Whilst still a gifted footballer it seems a stretch to keep him at such a rating, and I can see a downgrade heading his way for FIFA 17.

CM – Ilkay Gundogan – 84
Just as De Bruyne received a boost following his move to the Premier League last year I expect Gundogan to be the recipient of a small boost here. The German suffered from injuries across the 15-16 season and sadly missed Euro 2016 but holds a strong reputation as one of Germany’s finest young players, and one of a long line of exceptional talents to come out of the Dortmund side. He will have a lot of weight placed on his shoulders from the start and his new rating may well reflect the expectation Gundogan has in moving to the Etihad.

CM – Fernandinho – 81
Fernandinho was another decent performer across the season, with far stronger performances coming from the Brazilian than many of the midfielders around him. Playing a half century of games, the midfielder should definitely receive an upgrade for FIFA 17, as he displayed his efficiency in the middle of the park for his team.

CDM – Fernando – 80
Fernando is a similar story to his similar-sounding compatriot – he played for City in all the competitions, developing from a utility player to a key asset for the club to use last season whilst the club was struck with injuries, and should be in line for a small upgrade going into FIFA 17.

CM – Fabian Delph – 76
Much like Sterling, Delph is another player who draws the ire of many fans across the country – and whatever the error laden terms of his departure from Aston Villa were, it has to be said that Delph did not enjoy the best season at the club. Lacklustre performances, if at times limited, probably put Delph as a prime candidate for a downgrade – though a minor one, given injury afflicted much of his campaign.

LW – Nolito – 84
Nolito has shown over his extremely impressive form with Celta Vigo that he will be a stellar signing for Guardiola to deploy when he takes the reigns at City – and as a result an upgrade in FIFA would reflect fairly onto real world events. A strong showing in 2015-16, as well as a move to the Premier League, will likely see Nolito earn a significant boost.

ST – Sergio Aguero – 89
Sergio Aguero is a striker considered amongst the best in the world – and his exceptional goal scoring record and prolific character make that hard to dispute. At a time when out and out strikers appear increasingly difficult to come across, the added importance of a player like Aguero gives him prime conditions to be the recipient of an upgrade. City are a different team with him leading the line, and his consistently high goal scoring records signify a boost up to a rating as substantial as 89 is on the cards.

ST – Wilfried Bony – 80
The times in which Aguero was injured perhaps highlighted the troubling season Bony had, especially when Pellegrini preferred Iheanacho and even Sterling to occupy the striker position. Bony did not enjoy a good season and struggled to find goals for lengthy periods of time, and when compared to the efforts of the other forwards at City has a dismal record to display. A downgrade is more than likely for the Ivorian.

ST – Kelechi Iheanacho – 75
A stellar breakthrough season for the Nigerian striker should see him earn a significant boost up to a gold card – Iheanacho is yet to reach 20 and looked clinical and professional across his first season in the limelight, which I see as enough to reward him generously with an upgrade in colour as well as rating.

FIFA 17 Wishlist and Rumours: Players Ratings

This is the time of the year in which everyone has an opinion. Everyone dreams with the perfect FIFA. In order to have the best FIFA possible, it is important that players ratings be as real as possible.

One of the most discussed updates has to be with the best players of the world. Part of the community wants Ronaldo with the same rating of Messi. Depending on the progression that had the previous season, it is natural that some players are overvalued and others undervalued. In that cases theirs ratings should be updated. Which new players ratings may we expect to FIFA 17 ? Continue reading to find out…

Messi vs Ronaldo

Likelihood: High

Now that the deal with Messi ended, there are good chances to see both players with the same rating in FIFA 17. Messi should keep the 94 rating, the same one of Ronaldo which is a +1 upgrade from his FIFA 16 rating. EA is not given preferential treatment to Messi anymore, so it may happen.

Most popular upgrades

Likelihood: Very High

There are many popular players who will receive a huge rating upgrade for sure. It’s the case of Mahrez, Harry Kane, Kingsley Coman, Dele Alli, Leroy Sané, Eric Dier, Jamie Vardy and even Luis Suárez.

Manchester United ratings

Likelihood: Medium

According to EA Sports, the players ratings that we can see on screenshots and on the trailers are not final. But they could be. In previous years, many of the provisional players ratings were final. If this is true, these are the Manchester United ratings for FIFA 17:

David de Gea – 87
Antonio Valencia – 75
Chris Smalling – 83
Daley Blind – 79
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson – 67
Michael Carrick – 80
Jesse Lingard – 74
Juan Mata – 83
Wayne Rooney – 85
Anthony Martial – 78
Marcus Rashford – 73
Ander Herrera – 81
Ashley Young – 79
Memphis Depay – 79
Andreas Pereira – 69

Today we will cover the Manchester United players but you can also expect FIFA 17 ratings predictions for the other five biggest English Premier League teams.

FIFA 17 Ratings Predictions for Manchester United Players

FIFA 17 Ratings: Premier League Players Predictions - Manchester United

The failure to build on last season’s progress following a 5th place finish saw the end of the Louis van Gaal tenure at Old Trafford, and many players at the club brought under the spotlight of criticism. While a few players can hold their heads high, several look to be facing downgrades going into next season.

GK – David de Gea – 87
Many would argue that David de Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world, and after his season with Manchester United, it is easy to see why. The Spaniard was often the only presence stopping United from losing games across the season, and can easily stake a claim as the most important player in the squad, and arguably the only world class one present. A slightly questionable performance at the Euros may have knocked his chances of the upgrade being larger but it is almost certain that De Gea will see his rating boosted.

GK – Sergio Romero – 77
The deputy to De Gea, Romero saw limited action when his Spanish counterpart was fit – yet when called up to the first team the Argentine held himself well, and performed decently under the spotlight. An upgrade would not be a major surprise, though remaining the same wouldn’t shock many either.

RB – Matteo Darmian – 80
Darmian’s first season with Manchester United cannot be looked upon well – despite a strong start the full back struggled with fitness for most of the season and struggled to find any exemplar form – to the point where youth players like Borthwick-Jackson and Fosu-Mensah performed to a higher degree in the role. Missing a penalty for Italy in their quarter final shoot out against Germany won’t have helped either, and realistically it looks to be a small downgrade coming to the Italian.

LB – Luke Shaw – 77
Shaw looked a natural fit in the United left back position for the first month of the season, before a devastating injury ruled him out for the rest of the season and curtailed his progress. Whilst an upgrade may have been on its way given his strong start it looks unlikely given how little he played over the season.

LB – Cameron Borthwick-Jackson – 70
Borthwick-Jackson was a player only called into the United team through the heavy injuries the club sustained across the last campaign, though a series of impressive performances at full back will ensure he earns a decent card for FIFA 17. Injuries afflicted him as well, which may stop the card being given gold or even high silver – which likely places him around the middle of the silver ratings.

LB/CB – Marcos Rojo – 80
Rojo suffered from injuries over the season with United, though it has to be said that for long periods of time when fit the Argentine did not look composed or controlled in defence. A greater downgrade may have been given, were it not for his role in Argentina’s Copa America tournament, which may save the defender from a severer drop in rating – yet it seem likely that he’ll lose a rating despite his international exploits.

CB – Chris Smalling – 83
Smalling is another player who can hold their head high from the 2015-16 season. The trust and confidence invested into him when he first signed from Fulham looks to have paid off, as the centre back now remains United’s most important defender behind De Gea. Solid performances across the year, Euro 2016 aside, should see Smalling in line for an upgrade to rank him as one of the best defenders in the division.

CB – Phil Jones – 80
Jones’ upgrade from FIFA 15 to FIFA 16 was the source of controversy with some fans, though given how little he played across this season it would be a surprise to see EA downgrade the player going into the next game. His rating will likely remain the same.

CB – Eric Bailly – 80
A defender who’ll have a lot expected of him, Bailly was an outstanding player for Villarreal in La Liga last year, being a key part in their 4th place finish in the league. The Ivorian’s move to United combined with his form across last season will see a hefty upgrade for the player – likely moving him up to a decent 80 rating.

CB – Paddy McNair – 68
McNair suffered from injuries across the season for United, which would usually mean EA would leave his rating alone – yet his strong form for Northern Ireland over the year, especially at the European Championships, leave him a prime candidate for an upgrade going into FIFA 17.

CB – Timothy Fosu-Mensah – 69
The young Dutchman was another surprise highlight of the United season, with impressive performances coming at a time when United were expected to collapse with barely a first team lining up for them. His injury probably stops his card from being any higher but just below Borthwick-Jackson is probably accurate.

RM – Henrik Mkhitaryan – 84
One of the stand out signings of the summer so far, Mkhitaryan enters the Premier League as one of the most technically gifted and talented players from the Bundesliga. He was crucial in firing Borussia Dortmund back to the top 4 and only a few points behind title winners Bayern in the final standings, and now at United looks set to fix their offensive problems in the team. An upgrade looks likely for the Armenian.

RM – Juan Mata – 83
The exit door looks likely for the Spaniard with the return of Mourinho and the acquisition of a player in the mould of Mkhitaryan, but even so Mata’s rating looks set to take another knock going into FIFA 17. His season was a troubled one, failing to make the impact that his £40 million price tag would expect of him, and whilst there were some good performances the season has to go down as a disappointment from him, thus making a downgrade a probability.

RM/RB – Antonio Valencia – 77
Valencia’s continued dedication to Manchester United is a positive without doubt, but it seems extremely unlikely that the Ecuador winger will be a starter, or even near the squad, for much longer. His performances as a full back or a winger lack quality and in reality with Mourinho entering the club he will have a major fight to keep his place in the squad. I don’t see him going into the next game without a downgrade.

LM – Ashley Young – 80
Once the scorn of the watching public, it seems that many have forgotten about Ashley Young over the past year, which absence from the first team through injury will have helped. The winger was average when he played but ultimately didn’t have enough playing time to take a considerable knock in rating, which makes the retaining of his current rating look extremely likely.

LM – Jesse Lingard – 75
Yet another player to find first team action through the absence of his teammates, Lingard became one of the most played players at the club through his consistency over the season, and in fact can hold his head relatively high given the performances of some of his teammates. It would be a surprise not to see Lingard get a significant upgrade going into FIFA 17, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him leap up to a gold card.

CM – Bastian Schweinsteiger – 85
Schweinsteiger is a legend of football in the 21st century, having won everything with Bayern Munich and a World Cup with Germany, yet it has to be said that his form last season was very disappointing. The German is no longer the reliable stalwart of the midfield seen in his Bundesliga days but now riddled with injuries and often exposed by attacking teams, and whilst a decent European Championship may have saved his rating taking a huge hit it seems highly likely Schweinsteiger will face a knock to his rating, which is a huge shame.

CDM – Morgan Schneiderlin – 81
Probably one of the better performers from United’s midfielders, Schneiderlin was still disappointing on the whole for the club over the season. Injuries did affect his campaign but not to the degree of some of his rivals, and as a result a small downgrade looks set to hit the Frenchman.

CM – Ander Herrera – 81
It is disappointing to see a talented player like Herrera continually left out of the action by United, as that is largely what stops his rating from increasing – the Spaniard has talent and ability, yet finds himself benched too often, which will probably prevent his rating from increasing. With more midfielders likely entering the team courtesy of the transfer window, things do not look good for Herrera either.

CM – Michael Carrick – 78
Disappointing seems an understatement for Carrick, who appears to have let his age really catch up with him. Lacklustre offensively and unreliable defensively, Carrick’s performances over the season left very mediocre impacts on United as a team, and often his role in the side was non-existent. It seems likely the playmaker will face a downgrade, as age and form appear to have deserted him.

CDM – Daley Blind – 80
Daley Blind is one of the most versatile players in the United team, and his fitness over the season was crucial as he ended with a total of 55 games, more than any other player – though whilst his longevity in the United side is a plus for the team, his performances were not exceptional. Being played out of position numerous times didn’t help, but an upgrade seems out of the question for the player given the numerous positions the Dutchman was asked to play in – and assuming he remains a CDM it looks likely he’ll maintain his current rating.

CM – Marouane Fellaini – 76
The same cannot be said for Marouane Fellaini, who was without doubt one of the worst performers at the club over the season. Attracting the ire of United fans and the derision of most of the watching world, performances from the Belgian were sloppy, lethargic and lacklustre, often tainted with atrocious tackling and consistently cynical challenges, many of which involved his elbows. The player was equally poor at the Euros, where he failed to make an impact in any of Belgium’s games. He is without doubt one of the players heading towards a downgrade, and in all likelihood it would be a surprise to see Mourinho place his faith in him heading into next season.

LW – Memphis Depay – 80
Considered one of the young players of Europe in 2014-15, the first season at United has been a tough one for Depay to get through. Whilst some performances in the Champions and Europa League were impressive, the majority of the season was a major disappointment for Depay, leaving a downgrade as an extremely likely event heading into the next game. The severity of the downgrade may well be larger than my prediction!

ST – Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 89
The Premier League’s new big name, Ibrahimovic’s free transfer to Manchester United is what many will label as the signing of the summer. Certainly it looks the case, when you consider his outstanding 50 goals for PSG last season at nearly a goal a game, and his undoubted talent as a goal scorer wherever he’s played. Given how high his card is already rated, it seems unlikely the Swede will move any higher next season, though I would be incredibly surprised if EA were to knock his card down a rating.

ST/CAM – Wayne Rooney – 85
Rooney’s role at Manchester United appears to be a big question for Mourinho to have to deal with, with his position as striker lost to Martial and Rashford over the last season, his position as a number heavily scrutinised and his ability to play in midfield questioned through his performances at the Euros. With players like Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan entering the club with clear superiority to the captain there appear to be testing times ahead for him – which I feel will be reflected with a downgrade for Rooney. His performances over the course of the season don’t match his rating – so a small knock to it would probably be fair.

ST – Anthony Martial – 82
Martial heads into next season as one of the young players of the league – with his performances in the first few months of the season being a highlight of a disappointing season for his club. His season tailed off after injuries set in, and he didn’t enjoy the best Euros with France, but it cannot be denied that Martial was one of the best performers at the club, and a substantial upgrade is likely on the way for Martial.

ST – Marcus Rashford – 76
Perhaps the epitome of the success young players displayed at United this season, Rashford broke records and motivated the United team into stronger performances at a time where they looked to be sliding into complete collapse. His goals for United, and later England, earnt him a call up to the Euros, where he escaped without criticism amongst the drek of England’s other players. His absence of a card from FIFA 16 gives EA the scope to place Rashford’s rating where they want it – which I feel gives Rashford a good chance at being a gold for FIFA 17.
