What is an UP card?
 

Different to what happens on other game modes, and excepting the Ones to Watch cards, the FUT players aren’t automatically updated throughout the season according to their appearances in real life. Some may receive In Form cards, but most players remain with the characteristics they were given at the start of the season. In Ultimate Team, upgrades and downgrades are made through the release of new cards in two specific times: Summer and Winter upgrades. When a player is upgraded, the cards that start coming in packs have got the new ratings and attributes according to their performance on the real life pitch.

To each player who is upgraded during the FIFA 18 Winter upgrades season, it is assigned a new regular card which becomes available in packs until the end of the game, replacing the correspondent day 1 regular card. In other words, as soon as the new card is inserted in FUT packs, the old ones can only be found in the existing clubs and in the transfer market. Your odds of pulling the new card from a pack are exactly the same of pulling the original regular card before the update.

If you own the day 1 card of an upgraded player, your card will keep unchanged. If you want the improved version, you will need to buy the corresponding new card in the market or cross your fingers when opening a pack.

Rating and stats boost explanation
 

As we already have explained, it is not possible to improve the stats of any regular card. However, if a player stands out in the real world, in such a way that his card becomes strongly outdated, Electronic Arts comes to justice introducing a new type of card.

The FIFA 18 Ratings Refresh affects more than 400 ratings. The gold cards are usually improved in 1 or 2 points, which is explained by the fact that they are only assigned to players who had a marked development and not to minor adjustments. Silver and bronze players are usually upgraded by at least 4 points, while in exceptional cases this upgrade can sometimes reach 15 points. Usually, the higher is the original rating, the lower is the boost.

It is rare but the position of the players in these cards may change if, they played really well in a different position.

FIFA 18 Upgraded Players Cards are physically identical to the originals, except on rating, stats and a small graphic on the left bottom corner.

Based on what happened last year, these are the official rules we expect to see this year:

RULE 1
APPLICABILITY
Upgrades AND downgrades apply to new non-inform players found in packs. Non-IF players in your Club will not receive an upgrade or a downgrade.

RULE 2
UPGRADES
If an upgraded player’s new OVR rating equals or surpasses his existing first in-form’s rating, his IFs will get an upgrade.

2.1. An exception is made for lower rated players with significant upgrades.
2.2. Does not apply to Ultimate Scream items.

RULE 3
THE BOOST
If an upgraded player’s new OVR rating does not equal or surpass his existing in-form’s rating, his IFs will not get an upgrade.

3.1. However, if an upgraded player with an existing IF gets upgraded across Quality tiers (eg. Silver to Gold), his lower-quality IF will not get an upgrade. This preserves the in-form’s high value.
3.2. There is also an extra rule that wasn’t officially announced but that EA is using, about the IF upgrades:

If a NIF card is upgraded to 77, his IF card may be updated to 82
If a NIF card is upgraded to 78, his IF card may be updated to 82
If a NIF card is upgraded to 79, his IF card may be updated to 83
If a NIF card is upgraded to 80, his IF card may be updated to 83
If a NIF card is upgraded to 81, his IF card may be updated to 84
If a NIF card is upgraded to 82, his IF card may be updated to 84
If a NIF card is upgraded to 83, his IF card may be updated to 85

Downgrades to non-IF players will not affect their In-Forms or special items, should they have any.

FIFA 18 Winter Upgrades Release Date

When FIFA 18 Winter Upgrades will be available?
 

The FIFA 18 Ratings Refresh takes place in February. It rewards the players who stood out the most along the first half of the season with the release of new improved cards.

The FIFA 18 Winter upgrades are usually assigned to the players who have played well in a consistent way throughout the first five months of the season, not only in few games, showing that their old regular card was really outdated. As soon as upgraded cards are released, they replace all the respective regular cards that were supposed to be released in packs until the end of the game. That is, the only card you will find in packs is the new one but you may find both cards in the transfer market. Downgrades work on the same way.

We estimate to see more than 400 new cards this Winter. We believe that they will be released starting on February 23 (Friday). In the past years, these were the release dates of the first batch:

What happens to the UP cards’ prices?
 

As we would expect, as soon as the FIFA 18 upgraded players cards are released their price stays fixed way above the regular ones. These, on the other hand, start their way down. Also, with time the UP cards lose value once their quantity starts being superior to the rest of the cards. The price difference between the UP card initially and the regular card depends on many factors, such as the number of rating points gained, stats bonuses or an eventual position change.

When the player already has at least one IF card, this card is improved in the same proportion as the regular. There are people who choose the risk to invest in IF cards of players that have good chances of receiving an UP in advance because they know that in case that happens the return will be enormous. The bigger the player’s rating and popularity, the bigger is the IF card’s appreciation. In some cases profit can surpass 300%. At a long run, the cheapest cards lose value, while the most expensive ones slowly have their price increased. If you’re thinking about investing in these cards, be careful not to bet on the cards that are already being way too speculated. It’s just that sometimes the speculation is so big around determined cards that, after the upgrades, the improved IF cards’ market prices are inferior to what they were before the announcement. On the other hand, if you have a NIF of a player you think is going to receive an upgrade, it may be a good idea to sell him in advance so you minimize the loss.

Q: What is the an UP card?
A: It is a non-day 1 regular card that updates the ratings and the stats of the most inform players.

Q: How are players upgraded on FIFA 18 Ultimate Team?

Q: If I have a card of a player that is to receive an upgrade, will this card get upgraded?

Q: Can a player change categories if he is upgraded enough for that to happen?
A: Yes. As long as the upgrade gives him enough points for that, a player’s NIF card can go from bronze to silver or from silver to gold.

Q: If I have an In Form card of a player that is to receive an upgrade, will this card get upgraded?
A: Depends. Different to what happens with the NIF cards, the IF cards released before the upgrades will be upgraded in the same proportion as those (but automatically) if an upgraded player’s new OVR rating equals or surpasses his existing first in-form’s rating.

Q: Why are there some In Form cards that didn’t receive an upgrade although their NIF did?
A: First because probably the upgraded player’s new OVR rating does not equal or surpass his existing in-form’s rating. If it does, then it is because the upgraded player with an existing IF gets upgraded across Quality tiers (eg. Silver to Gold).

Q: Why wasn’t a certain player’s IF card upgraded if his NIF and UP were of the same category?
A: Probably because that IF card already had the maximum rating for its category: 64 or 74.

Q: It is possible to exist two regular cards of the same player with different ratings?
A: Yes. That’s what happens when a player receives an upgrade, two cards start coexisting: one corresponds to the start of the season and the other has got improved ratings and attributes.

Q: When there’s an upgrade, which cards are the ones that come in packs?
A: The new ones.

Q: Which cards are released first: transfers or upgrades?
A: Transfers.

Q: Do all upgraded players get a new card?
A: Yes. Although, if you own a regular card of a player that was upgraded there won’t be any alterations.

Q: The NIF and TOTW cards are the only ones to be upgraded?
A: No. Every single special card has the chance to be upgraded, which includes, for example, the Heroes and Record Breaker cards.

Q: How can I predict which players have good chances of receiving an upgrade card?
A: Even if you don’t keep up much with the real life football, there are two indicators to help out in this prediction: the number of a player’s IF cards; constant rating upgrades on H2H.

Q: Can a player be downgraded?
A: Yes. FIFA 18 Ratings Refresh updates the players ratings with upgrades and downgrades.

Q: How many points are the players upgraded by normally?
A: For most gold players the upgrade is of just 1 or 2 points. Silver and bronze players are usually upgraded by at least 4 points, while in exceptional cases this upgrade can sometimes reach 15 points.

Q: I already have a squad. What is it good to me?
A: If you’re already “done” with your squad, the upgrades increase your improvement opportunities. If your squad is based on a league, for example, upgrades can improve the players you already have or they can promote others for a position or two.

Q: What cares should I take with these new cards coming?
A: If you want to buy a NIF, make sure you’re not paying the price the UP demands. If you want to sell an UP, make sure you’re not selling for the corresponding NIF price.

Introduction to the FIFA 18 Ultimate Team players cards
 

As you may imagine, the players’ cards are the most important FUT 18 cards. If your club has that type of cards, it means that you can control those players on the pitch.

You can buy hundreds of players for your club. Just buy their cards. There are many cards of the same player but you can only have one of each. That is, you can not have two cards of the same player. In fact, you can have two cards of the same player in your club if each one has different clubs (player was transferred) or have a special version and you place them in different squads.

You may learn about the different players’ cards here but now we will explain what you can find on FIFA 18 Ultimate Team players cards. It has a lot of information that you must pay attention to improve your chances of victory.

Rating and Attributes

To know how good a player is, you shouldn’t look at his rating. It only shows, generally, how popular and how good he is in some attributes, allowing you to compare him with the others. The overall rating is not an average or an reflection of all attributes. Sometimes, players with lower ratings can be better choices.

Depending on their ratings, players may belong to one of the following groups:

Bronze, for ratings up to 64;
Silver, for ratings between 65 and 74;
Gold, for ratings between 75 and 99.

The rating is also important because it is responsible for the star rating system of teams. The star rating of a squad is a representation of the overall rating of each player in the squad. This is calculated from the players in the starting line-up and on the subs bench. It is a requirement for some matches and it is used too in matchmaking.

Here are the star rating ranges:

5.0 | Overall Rating > 80
4.5 | Overall Rating: 77 – 80
4.0 | Overall Rating: 74 – 76
3.5 | Overall Rating: 70 – 73
3.0 | Overall Rating: 66 – 69
2.5 | Overall Rating: 64 – 65
2.0 | Overall Rating: 62 – 63
1.5 | Overall Rating: 60 – 61
1.0 | Overall Rating: < 60

If you want to know how good a player is, you should look to his attributes. The six main ones (pace, shooting, passing, dribbling, defence and physical) give you the idea of how they play. But it is not enough. If you want to know exactly what you could expect from them, you should look to all their attributes and not the main six. In this case there is the exception of goalkeepers who have on their cards all the stats that determine their performances.

Each attribute ranges between 1 and 99 (99 correspond to the perfection). Such information is written on the all players’ cards. Depending on your play style, your formation and the attributes of the others players in the squad, it may be a good option to choose players that are better in some specific attributes. For example, a team that often uses crossing for heading should have a striker with good heading (included in physical).

Position

A crucial information, when you are planning your squad, is the preferred position of the players. You can choose to place the goalkeeper as a striker but, as you may expect, the performance will be very poor. You should try to respect the player card detail about his preferred position. Otherwise, you will be damaging his individual chemistry and the chemistry of the team.

Cards of the same player may have different positions. If you have a card whose position does not fit into the formation of your team, you may have to make one of the following:

Trade the card on the market by another identical but with the correct position;
Lose a few points of squad chemistry and keep the player adapted to the new position;
Buy and use position change cards that modify the position showed on the player’s card.

Fitness

The performance of a player on the pitch depends on his attributes, his chemistry, team’s chemistry and his fitness.

It is very important to keep your players with high fitness. As it is easy to understand, the fitness depends of the playing time, the effort spent in the match, and of the injuries that eventually the player may suffer. The fitness level is printed on the player’s cards. It is a number that ranges between 1 and 99.

It is important to pay attention to the fitness because a group of players with good chemistry will have no use if their physical condition is poor. To fix this, you may make them rest in some matches, providing a rotation of your squad, or buy and use fitness cards.

During the matches, players can get injured and being out of the following matches. On the players’ cards you can find the details about how many time the player will be out and what kind of injury he has. Both are important for you since you will be able to know how to manage your squad and how you can speed up the player’s recovery.

The global healing cards can reduce the healing time up to four matches. However, if you know if the injury was on the foot, leg, knee, arm, upper body, head or back, you will be able to buy and apply specific healing cards for these ills and reduce the downtime by up to five matches.

Contracts

Every match that a player plays is a contract that he spends. The only way to prevent a player from running out of contracts and being unable to play, apart from not using him, is buying contract cards. That is why it is recommended that you save some coins in order to being able to buy contract cards and keep your players available.

The contract card is the only consumable card that you really have to buy in order to play. That’s why it is so important.

The number of contracts is also expressed on the player’s card as a number between 0 and 99.

Chemistry Styles

When a player is released in a card, his chemistry style is basic (BAS), the starter style. It means that all his attributes are improved in the same way (one point if chemistry is the higher possible). If you want to adjust the players attributes to your squad needs, you can apply a chemistry style card. In the active squad menu, you have a visual indicator (little green arrow) next to the stats of each player showing which ones will be affected by the chemistry and how much will be the potential chemistry boost.

The Chemistry Styles allow you to let choose what stats are changed but not how much it will change. It depends of your chemistry. If you get individual chemistry 10, you will get the higher improvement possible in the stats you chosen.

When you buy a player, look very well to which chemistry style he has. If he doesn’t have the chemistry style you want, you can apply him another chemistry style card or buy another card of the same player with the right style.

Chemistry

Expressed on the player card as a number between 0 and 10, the chemistry evaluates how well he identifies himself with his team mates, the manager and the team. It is a factor that helps the game play by interacting with the familiarity of the players with the positioning, the relation with the other players and the manager.

When you buy a player to your squad, you should check if he will get a good chemistry. We recommend to get, at least, individual chemistry 8. However, is specific cases, better players with lower chemistries may be a good option.

More Details

A player card gives you even more details. You can check the biographical details about the player, his statistics and the item details.

The players’ cards have some biographical information about them that has a merely informative interest. In addition to a photograph of the player’s face, it also includes his name, surname, nickname, nationality, club and country where he plays, date of birth, height, foot preference, weak foot, skill moves, work rates, fitness, injuries and if he is untradeable or not.

On the FIFA 18 Ultimate Team Players’ cards you can also see all attributes and some statistics about performance of those players. In particular, you can check how many matches he played, how many goals he scored, how many assists he made and how many yellow and red cards were shown to him.

It is also possible to check three details of a specific player card: the purchased date, the price of this acquisition and the cumulative number of owners.

Graphic Signs

Sometimes you find a player card that has something different on it. If you don’t know what is it, we will try to help you to identify six different situations.

When a player or a manager is out of contracts, their cards have a red folder sign on the top right side. It is very useful, especially when you are searching players or managers on the transfer market. As soon as you apply a contract card, the sign disappears.

When a player is suspended, his card has a red rectangle sign on the top right side. It is very useful, especially when you are on your main squad menu. As soon as he is able again to play, the sign disappears.

When a player is injured, his card has a red band-aid sign on the top right side. It is very useful, especially when you are on your main squad menu. As soon as he rests or you apply him a healing card, the sign disappears.

When someone applies a training card on a player, he will have better attribute(s) for one match. In order for anyone to recognize this, the player card has a pin signal on the top right side. As soon as you use him in a match, the sign disappears.

The players on loan are also identified by a specific signal: a blue retangle on the top right side of the card, showing the remain matches.

Lastly, the Winter Downgraded/Upgraded cards have a green arrow on the lower left side.

Tips for begginers

For the less experienced Ultimate Team players, sometimes it may be a bit tricky to perform a few basic management players’ tasks. Here they are the most common ones and the best way to lead with them:

Go to transfer market, use the filters and buy (check this video, please)

After you have bought him, choose ‘send to club‘ or ‘place in active squad‘ (check this video, please)

Use a Player running out of contracts

Put him in the reserves (on the right of substitutes) and wait until the suspension expires

FIFA 18 Ultimate Team player’s cards frequently asked questions

Q: Where can I find all the attributes of my players?
A: Since FUT 18, you can see the attribute details as you usually do to see the player bio, directly in your console or PC.

Q: Can I have more than one card of the same player stored in my club?
A: You can have several cards of the same player but only in the transfer list. To have more than one card of the same player in your club, you need to place each one in different squads and they must be from different clubs (the player has moved to another club). You can also have a NIF and a IF card of the same player in different teams.

Q: How do I change the work rates of my players?
A: That’s not possible.

Q: Getting a high/high work rate is a good thing?
A: Usually not. It means that your players will be often out of position. They want to attack but they also want to defend. It depends of your formation, play style and the player position.

Q: I don’t use skills. Do I need players with high star skills?
A: No. If you don’t perform skills, it doesn’t matter the star skills of your players. However, our advice is that you should learn, at least, one skill movement. It doesn’t need to be a 5 star skill movement.

Q: Is a gold player always better than a silver one?

How FIFA 18 Winter Upgrades work
 

Different to what happens in other game modes, the players aren’t automatically updated throughout the season according to their appearances in real life. Some may receive In Form cards, but most players remain with the characteristics they were given at the start of the season. In Ultimate Team, upgrades are made through the release of new cards in determined periods. The first one happens within the transition of one FIFA to another looking to reflect the player’s evolution between two seasons. The second one, in February, rewards the players who stood out the most in the first half of the season with the release of new (improved) cards. That’s exactly these FIFA 18 winter upgraded players cards that are being released now.

Based on what happened last year, these are the official rules we expect to see this year:

RULE 1
APPLICABILITY
Upgrades apply to new non-inform players found in packs. Non-IF players in your Club will not receive an upgrade.

RULE 2
UPGRADES
If an upgraded player’s new OVR rating equals or surpasses his existing first in-form’s rating, his IFs will get an upgrade.

2.1. An exception is made for lower rated players with significant upgrades.
2.2. Does not apply to Ultimate Scream items.

RULE 3
THE BOOST
If an upgraded player’s new OVR rating does not equal or surpass his existing in-form’s rating, his IFs will not get an upgrade.

3.1. However, if an upgraded player with an existing IF gets upgraded across Quality tiers (eg. Silver to Gold), his lower-quality IF will not get an upgrade. This preserves the in-form’s high value.
3.2. There is also an extra rule that wasn’t officially announced but that EA is using, about the IF upgrades:

If a NIF card is upgraded to 77, his IF card may be updated to 82
If a NIF card is upgraded to 78, his IF card may be updated to 82
If a NIF card is upgraded to 79, his IF card may be updated to 83
If a NIF card is upgraded to 80, his IF card may be updated to 83
If a NIF card is upgraded to 81, his IF card may be updated to 84

The Weak Foot Skill measures the ability of a player to shoot with one foot as he does with his preferred foot. All players have a preferred foot. Having a 5 star weak foot rating means that a player’s weaker foot shot is identical to their preferred foot shot. Having a 1 star weak foot rating means that the player can only shoot with one foot.

Once a year, Electronic Arts updates the game database, upgrading the weak foot of dozens of players. The FIFA 18 Weak Foot Upgrades apply to all player’s versions, including the ones you own in your club, the IF / special cards and the ones you pull from packs. Just remember to restart FIFA and re-enter FUT to apply the update.

The Star Skill Moves measures the ability that a player has to perform technical moves. To all skill moves are assigned a number between 1 (least complex) and 5 (most complex). The players with higher skills, like Ronaldo, are able to perform more complex moves. If you often use these moves to confuse the opponents, you should pay attention to this attribute. Otherwise, you will not be able to perform all the player’s skills.

Once a year, Electronic Arts updates the game database, upgrading the star skills of dozens of players. The FIFA 18 Skill Upgrades apply to all player’s versions, including the ones you own in your club, the IF / special cards and the ones you pull from packs. Just remember to restart FIFA and re-enter FUT to apply the update.

How the FIFA 18 St Patricks Day Cards Work
 

To promote the event, Electronic Arts introduced in FIFA 15 a brand new themed card. These cards are assigned to a selection of players and released all at once in a single FUT squad.

Based on what happened in previous years, these are the official rules we expect to see this time:

RULE 1
AVAILABILITY
FIFA 18 St Patricks Day cards become available in packs for a limited time. During this period, they replace the corresponding regular not coloured cards. In other words, it is not possible to find a regular card of a St Patricks Day player while they are in packs.

1.1. If you own the regular card of a St Patricks Day player, your card will keep unchanged. If you want the new version, you will need to buy the corresponding version in the market or pull it from a pack while available.
1.2. Your odds of pulling a St Patricks Day card from a pack are exactly the same ones of pulling the day 1 card of that player in another time.

RULE 2
RATINGS AND STATS
During the event, a selection of Irish players will be released in packs as unique green items. The ratings and stats of these cards are exactly the same ones from the day 1 items.

Even some of the cheapest non-rares increase considerably in price, especially if they fit the SBC requirements and are given a green team card. Who are the FIFA 18 FUT Birthday Players?

Who they are and why they were chosen?
 

As you know, the FIFA 18 FUT Birthday players were announced on March 16. The players selected to get one of the FIFA 18 FUT Birthday items were these ones.

The FUT Birthday party is packed with special events and rewards, including the FUT Birthday squad, a variety of themed Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) and Weekly Objectives, and more. Look for new Prime ICONS, an End of an Era SBC, and St. Patrick’s Day-themed events throughout the celebrations, too. The FUT Birthday squad, made up of players that dominated at different positions in previous versions of FUT, will be available in packs as special player items for the entire event. These items open up fresh and inventive ways of FUT roster-building, thanks to position changes and upgraded ratings. Let’s see, player by player, why EA have chosen these ones.

Defenders

RB: Azpilicueta (Chelsea) – 88
Known for his speed and technical ability when he arrived at Chelsea, the Spanish defender was initially shoehorned into a central defensive role. But Azpilicueta thrived at center back, utilizing strength and size as well as his tactical awareness and tidy passing ability.

RB: Bruno Peres (AS Roma) – 82
It’s not always a knock when a player is referred to as right- or left-sided only, especially when the player is exceptional at one or the other. Peres is a right-sided player, but he’s still versatile in that he can shine literally anywhere on that side of the pitch. He showed off his pace and dribbling ability so much as a young right-back that he’s often given license to play much further up the pitch.

CB: Danilo Pereira (FC Porto) – 85
Solid as a brick wall and quicker than most players of his stature and build, Pereira’s strengths as a defensive midfielder were also on display at center back, a position that he occupied for a time in his nascent career.

CB: Sead Kolašinac (Arsenal) – 84
Kolasinac excelled as a center back in his first couple seasons as a professional at Schalke 04, and then moved to Arsenal where he continued to flourish at left-back. His physical style of play helps him in either defensive role, but Kolasinac’s height and aerial ability saw extra use when he played in central defense.

CB: Cheikhou Kouyaté (West Ham United) – 81
Now firmly established in West Ham’s midfield, Kouyaté spent his time in the Belgian league with Anderlecht at center back. The aerial and tackling skills he honed during that time have assisted him in his new role, often bailing out his defenders and kicking off counter attacks from deep positions.

LB: Gareth Bale (Real Madrid) – 90
Before the agile Welshman was one of the most expensive players in world football, he quietly plied his trade at Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur as an attacking left-back. After some incredible performances in which he bombed up and down the wing, Bale was moved higher up the pitch to dedicate himself to beating opponents and sending crosses in for teammates.

Midfielders

CDM: Javi Martinez (FC Bayern München) – 88
Despite starting as a midfielder, Martinez made a successful shift to defense shortly after arriving at Bayern. There’s no doubt it was the right move for him at the time (just look at his trophy case), but his recent return to a midfield role is a reminder of how good he can be in the center of the pitch.

CM: David Alaba (FC Bayern München) – 87
The Austrian made a name for himself as a central midfielder in the early days of his professional career, but has since blossomed into an extraordinary left-back during his time at Bayern. Alaba’s powerful left foot and uncanny football mind suited him as a midfielder, but took him to the next level when he made the change to fullback.

CM: Alessandro Florenzi (AS Roma) – 86
The Italian has an “engine” with a seemingly endless supply of energy, which is why he started in central midfield, sprinting up and down the pitch and assisting the defense and attack equally. As the game evolved into a style in which full-backs need to have that same engine, Florenzi’s skills came in handy when transitioning to his new role.

CM: Kwadwo Asamoah (Juventus) – 83
Asamoah was a versatile central midfielder before moving to Juventus, where he shifted his entire game to the left flank. A hard worker regardless of position, Asamoah has the tactical intelligence to play anywhere on the left side, but he is most often deployed as a left-back.

CM: Moussa Sissoko (Tottenham Hotspur) – 81
Having developed into a solid wide player with a fierce cross at Tottenham, Sissoko actually started his career in the center of the pitch. A box-to-box midfielder in the purest sense, Sissoko flourished when controlling the tempo of the game and kicking off attacks from the middle.

CAM: Di María (Paris Saint-Germain) – 87
Many of the skills that make Di Maria such an effective winger were carefully honed earlier in his career, where he often played as a central attacking midfielder, pulling the strings and making late runs into the box.

CAM: Julian Draxler (Paris Saint-Germain) – 86
As a young player at Schalke 04, Draxler was commonly deployed in attacking midfield, a position that took advantage of his one-on-one technical skills and exceptionally powerful shot. While his speed and crossing ability weren’t as useful in central midfield, they’ve been quite a boon since he moved to the right wing a bit later in his career.

CAM: Keisuke Honda (Pachuca) – 84
Perhaps most famous for his role as a dead ball specialist, Honda played a central attacking role for the majority of his career. In the past couple seasons, Honda has moved out to the right wing where he can put his delivery skills to use by whipping crosses into the box.

CAM: Felipe Anderson (Lazio) – 83
As he developed his game in the center of the pitch, the young Brazilian honed the skills that helped him thrive upon being shifted to the wing in recent seasons. Instead of through balls and off-the-shoulder runs behind the defense, Anderson now focuses on crossing from the flank and cutting inside to shoot on goal.

RW: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) – 95
Possibly the most versatile attacker that the game has ever seen, Ronaldo only gets better when tasked with another position or style of play. As a rising young star with Manchester United, he stunned the Premier League from the right wing, using his footwork and single-handedly destroying opponents with his ability to cut inside and shoot.

RW: Eden Hazard (Chelsea) – 92
Another top player able to dominate nearly anywhere in the attack, Hazard built his reputation at Lille as a speedy right winger. After a brief period as a central playmaker, the Belgian completed his journey across the front line by cementing a spot on the left wing at Chelsea.

LM: Yannick Bolasie (Everton) – 85
Some players don’t necessarily favor one side of the pitch over another, especially when their strengths aren’t affected by their place on the pitch. Bolasie has many of the typical qualities of a top winger, most notably pace and technical skills, so that he’s able to slot in on either flank.

LW: Jordi Alba (FC Barcelona) – 88
Probably one of the most common position shifts for players as they get older, Alba’s move backwards from winger to fullback was as helpful for his team as for him. The Spaniard can still use his breakneck speed and pinpoint crossing ability to overlap midfielders, and then track back to intercept the ball or mark an opponent.

Strikers

CF: Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund) – 90
Flexible and able to adapt to any sort of attacking role, Reus has most-recently found a home as a wide player for Dortmund. But for years, he utilized that speed and creativity “in the hole” as a second striker playing between midfield and main forward.

CF: Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City) – 86
Mahrez’s versatility allows him to be comfortable anywhere in the attack, a key trait in Leicester’s miraculous title run. He has since settled on the right but still shows the finishing and first-touch that made him so valuable as a center forward before he arrived in the Premier League.

CF: Sadio Mané (Liverpool) – 86
Comfortable on either wing, the Senegalese attacker earned his transfer to Liverpool after impressing as a forward for part of two seasons at Southampton. Mane has since matured into an excellent left winger on Merseyside, where he plays a big role in the Reds’ fearsome attacking trio.

ST: André Schürrle (Borussia Dortmund) – 83
Most commonly associated with speed and limitless energy, Schurrle uses those skills from wide midfield positions right now. But for a time, the German was deployed as a forward, where he would fly past defenders to latch onto through balls, launch counter-attacks, and shoot on goal at every opportunity.
