What is the Team of the Year?
Every single year since FUT 12, in early January, Electronic Arts build a team of players based on their real performance on the previous year. The players of this TOTY are selected from the voting of FIFPro, the worldwide professional footballers association, and announced in the FIFA Gala. They are supposed to be the best players in the world.
They are upgraded with a blue TOTY card which becomes available in packs for a week. In the week a player gets his TOTY card in packs, it is impossible to find his regular card there. Your odds of pulling a TOTY card from a pack are exactly the same of pulling the regular card of that player in another week.
If you own the regular card of a TOTY player, your card will keep unchanged. If you want the improved version, you will need to buy the corresponding TOTY version in the market or pull it from a pack.

When FIFA 18 TOTY Cards will be available?
The Team of the Year is released once per year. This usually happens in the first or second week of January but this time it may be different. London will host of the Best FIFA Football Awards 2017 on October 23, making the move from Zurich and for that reason, there is a chance to see TOTY released almost three months earlier than usual.
These very special blue cards are assigned only to eleven players (a goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards), that can be of any league and quality. It is only made a distinction between the four lines, not between each position. For example, instead of having full backs, this team can have four centre backs. Usually they are all gold and play in LaLiga Santander, Premier League and Bundesliga.
In FIFA 18, TOTY cards will be announced at 5:30pm (UK time) and released in packs at 8pm. You can pull a TOTY card in any gold pack with rare gold players cards.
Ratings and Stats
How big are the ratings and stats boosts?
The players ratings and stats of FIFA 18 TOTY cards are usually boosted in six or seven points. The forwards evidently have less scope for an increase because Ronaldo and Messi are already highly rated. The attributes have a similar increase but it doesn’t mean that all attributes have to be improved. The position of the players in these cards may change if, in the previous year, they played really well in a new position.
You can have the regular card and the TOTY card of the same player in your club. However, you cannot use them both in your squad at the same time.
These cards are usually the most expensive ones of the whole FUT 18.

What happens to the TOTY cards’ prices?
We will describe what usually happens when TOTY comes out. Please, be aware that this is only valid for TOTYs released in January. This year, it may be different.
Once a year, a team featuring the best players of the year is announced. This release is responsible for thousands of pack openings. It also means severe price falls. Everything happens at an absolute immense scale: these cards are the best in the game, they come in packs for a week and prices fall to never before seen values.
The effect caused by the Team of the Year is felt way before it’s even announced. The game barely starts and there are already some players planning on building their squads in January, at a point when buying the best players will cost them the same as how much they’d spend building an average team in the beginning. The start of a more severe devaluation happens before Christmas and is prolonged until the TOTY release.
The NIF cards lose value progressively through the weeks before the TOTY. The biggest drop is registered both on the day it starts and the day before that, which by the way is a Sunday, a day of the week when prices are lower. Only on this day the market should drop more than 3%. And that is followed by an apparent stabilisation which lasts until the weekend arrives. At this stage prices tend to rise very slightly, then, just as the TOTY cards stop coming from packs, the market rises again. This price increase tendency lasts about two weeks, then the natural course of devaluation is resumed.
